Artist's Comments

Got a sweet comment from ~ViolentContact saying she'd be flattered if I drew her :) I'm as susceptible to flattery as the next girl and she was absolutely adorable, with a good resolution stock photo that printed out real pretty from my computator in greyscale.
And thus we have a portrait that looks nothing like her!

This thing got away from me so many times..
It started off as a little ink etching, using speedball nibs and blue ink..
Then I added some bold black ink to sink it in..
Then I noticed I had some acrylics lying really close by..
Then it was green.
Then yellow..
Then red..
Then it came beck to this
I've done something interesting here. I've merged my painting and drawing style and united them with a comic-y type approach to the outline. I think I like it. :D

And I've just realized that I have drawn yet another giant head

Woah nice portrait. I have never really been able to use acrylic properly so I am always fascinated by the use of that medium. I like the way you managed to mix the mediums together that you used to create such an effective portrait with very beauituful coloring. You can really see all the tiny details in the full view and it looks stunning. I particularly like the hair, the white highlights against the black really make it stand out and look positively gorgeous. Another excellent portrait work from you.

Thank you :)
Acrylics are actually really great to use and fairly easy to learn because they're so versatile. If you like watercolours, you can use acrylics similarly by working wet. If you prefer oils you can use acrylic out of the tube and mimic that kind of richness :)
And all points between, of course :)

Nah.
Just a different kind of pretty. You've got that soulful innocence thing going on. "Chica"'is a bit more earthy. :)

I think when you have all these tools and normally each tool is independent of the other, and then out of curiousness you merge those tools to create... i think it's fantastic. Especially since the original picture is totally different, yet there are similarities that make it very much the same. Now this is taking artistic liberty and i love it. I love the darkness of the hair and the little smudge under the eyes (on purpose? doesn't matter it makes it lovely). She’s a cool choice for a model too.

Interesting facial expression, a thoughtful one certainly. Her best attribute in this is definitely her hair, I love that the most ^^
